(mylbsonline.com/Liberia/ Nov. 21/2013) US$1.1m Water, Sanitation and Hygiene project has been launched in Monrovia by the Liberia WASH Consortium.

The one-year project targets about 50-thousand persons in five counties, especially women and children under 5, with support from the Irish Government.

Counties benefiting from the project include Grand Cape Mount, rural Montserrado, Grand Bassa, River Cess and Sinoe Counties.

The project is aimed at creating more equitable access to improved water and sanitation services.

It will also motivate the beneficiaries to practice key sanitation and hygiene behaviors.

It will establish 30 new and b23 rehabilitation water points in communities, conduct water quality testing and disinfection.

The project will also focus on the setting up and training of WASH Committees.

It is also focused on training community pump mechanics in water point maintenance, parts and basic repairs, among others.

The launch of the project coincides with the celebration of World Toilet Day.
