EU welcomes AUs new mission in Ebola affected-countries

(www.elbcradio.com/Liberia/Wed, Sept. 10, 2014)-The European Union (EU) has welcomed the African Union’s new mission to the Ebola-affected West African Sub-region.
 
EU Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, expressed the union’s commitment to fully support its African partners in containing the Ebola pandemic and called for close cooperation.

According to an EU dispatch, Commissioner Piebalgs’ statement follows a €5m pledged towards the African Union’s newly established mission.

The dispatch quotes Mr. Piebalgs as saying: “Support to Ebola Outbreak in West Africa (ASEOWA) will beef-up ongoing efforts to contain the virus.”

At the same time, the EU Commissioner for Industrial Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgiana, said: “The needs in affected areas are constantly growing.”
