IBEX conducts crisis mitigation training

(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Oct. 28, 2014)-The Liberia Investment for Business Expansion (IBEX) has begun conducting crisis mitigation training for small and medium-scale entrepreneurs.

According to IBEX Acting Chief of  Party, Augustus Flomo, IBEX is a United States Aid for International Development (USAID) founded program.

Mr. Flomo said: “The training is intended to enable Liberian entrepreneurs cope with the shocks of the post-Ebola effect and to help strengthen the country’s economy.”

He also said: “Since the establishment of IBEX, more than 1,000 clients have been trained to doing business during such difficult Ebola crisis.”

“About eleven business owners completed one of the training closing sessions held Friday, October 24, 2014 in Monrovia.”

The exercise is expected to ensure that Liberian entrepreneurs remain in control of their economy during the spread of the killer disease.

The IBEX Acting Chief of Party attributed the acute increase in un-employment and cost of commodities, the drop in sales, and the difficulties in business operation to the Ebola crisis.

“These issues, among others, are what we are seeking to address”, Flomo said.

Some participants expressed gratitude to the trainers that they were satisfied with the level of knowledge they have achieved, saying it will help them a lot to improving our skills in business.

The Blue Diamond Water Chief Executive Officer, Lassanah A. Jabateh, told elbcradio.com that described the notion that Liberians lack basic business knowledge is false.

Mr. Jabateh said: “When the rightful support is provided and environment created, we can perform greatly like any other Africans”.

While a Proprietress of Emmalou Sweet Dream, a local food processing and packaging company established in 1993, said she is  now confident of herself   because of  two years training she benefited from IBEX.

Madam Emma K. Wuor, stressed: “as a result of the IBEX training, I can now write business plan, though it was difficult to cope with initially.”

The training brought together participants from Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Bomi Counties and other nearby areas.
