(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Nov. 20, 2014)-The Liberian Senate has endorsed the December 16 date for the conduct of the 2014 Special Senatorial Election through-out the country.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) recently proposed the December 16 Special Senatorial Election date to the National Legislature.

NEC’s proposal followed the suspension of the October 14 date as enshrined in the Liberian Constitution.

The Sensate, in its Tuesday concurrence with the House of Representatives, called on the NEC to ensure that the Special Senatorial Election is held across the country.

In its recent communication to the lawmakers, the Commission proposed that the election should not be held in areas determined as Ebola “Hot spots.”

It can be recalled that the Liberian Senate, on two occasions, failed to concur with the Lower House on the December 16 election date.

The Senate had said conducting election, in the wake of the Ebola crisis, may suggest that the Government is insensitive to the Liberian people’s plight.

NEC has since released the time-table leading to the conduct of the Special Senatorial Election through-out the country.
