(www.elbcradio.com/Liberria/Friday,Nov. 21, 2014)-The National Legislature has finally passed the National Budget for the Fiscal Year 2014/2015 in the tone of US$ 660m.

The budget was passed Thursday, November 20, 2014 following a careful scrutiny and submission of a report by the joint Public Accounts, Ways, Means and Finance Committee of both Houses.

House Speaker, Alex Tyler, said:”The original budget was 550-million United States Dollars and recast because of the Ebola outbreak, thus reducing it to 473-million United States Dollars.”

Fortunately, the Budget was increased to over 600-million through foreign assistance,” he said.

Speaker Tyler told elbcradio.comthat the increment in the Budget will target Liberia’s post-Ebola recovery programs.

He said health, infrastructure, roads, education, among others, are key priorities highlighted in the current National Budget.

It can be recalled that the Executive Branch of Government submitted the Budget to the National Legislature sometime this year for scrutiny and its subsequent passage.

However, the early passage of the budget did not materialize as a consequence of the Ebola outbreak in Liberia.

In her recent nation-wide address, President Sirleaf announced Budget passage and Ebola containment report from health authorities and partners as preconditions for the reopening of schools.
