(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Nov. 26, 2014)-Health Minister-Designated, George Werner, has been rejected by the Liberian Senate.

The Senate took the decision Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in Plenary at the National Legislature on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

The Senate said: “We could not confirm Mr. Werner, because he lacks the requisite qualities to perform the duties of Health Minister when he ascends to that post.”

The Senate’s rejection of Mr. Werner followed a recommendation from the Senate Health Committee on Social Welfare, Gender, Women and Children Affairs.

During his hearing, the Health Minister-Designated told Plenary: “I hold a degree in Social Work, BSc in General Education, and Coordinator for Clinical and Services in the United States.”

Mr. Werner, currently serving as Civil Servant Agency Director-General, is the first among recent presidential nominees to be rejected by the Senate.

Meanwhile, several other nominees, including Transport and Education Ministers-Designate, Bushuben Keita, and Elizabeth Davis-Russell, respectively, appeared before the Senate Tuesday for confirmation.

LBS Director General-Designate, Ledgerhood Rennie, and Deputy Education Minister-Designate for Planning, Research and Development, Anthony Nimely, also appeared for confirmation Tuesday.
