(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Dec. 4, 2014)-The Liberian Senate has denied Education Minister-Designate, Elizabeth David-Russel.

A source closed to the confirmation hearing told elbcradio.com: “The Senate denied the Education Minister-Designate, following her admission, during her confirmation hearing, that she holds an American passport.”

The source also said: “The Senate could not confirm Madam David-Russel on grounds that she is a foreigner.”
Dr. David-Russel brings to two presidential nominees denied so far by the Senate. Recently, Health Minister-Designate, George Warner, was also rejected by the Senate for lack of requisite qualification.

Prior to her appointment as Education Minister-Designate, Dr. David-Russel served as President of the Tubman University in Harper, Maryland County.

At the same time, our source also said: “The Senate has confirmed several presidential nominees, including the Director-General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Ledgerhood Rennie.”

Mr. Rennie was recently nominated by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, replacing former LBS Director-General, Darryl Ambrose Nmah.

Mr. Rennie previously served the National Broadcaster as Deputy Director-General for Media Services.

He earlier served as Station Manager of the Catholic Radio Station, Radio VERITAS, having started laying his foundation in broadcasting at Radio ELCM, another Catholic FM radio station in Monrovia.

Before his appointment by the Liberian Leader in 2010 as principal Deputy to Mr. Nmah, Mr. Rennie worked with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
He is expected to officially take over his mandate from out-gone Director-General Nmah soon.-
