(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Dec. 5, 2014)-Washington has assured that Liberia will be its primary beneficiary of the US$6b emergency aid being requested from Congress by President Barack Obama.

Assistant US Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said: “Washington is poised to help Liberia during its post Ebola era.”

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said: “A lot of money will be needed to help Liberia and, as such, the US Government is working along with other organizations to galvanize more funding to support the country’s effort.”

She named the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as organizations the US Government is working along with to achieve the objective.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs made the comments Wednesday, December 3, 2014 when she spoke to elbcradio.com in Monrovia.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield is at the head of an eleven-member delegation assessing the impact of the Ebola Crisis in Liberia.

She also said: “Back in Washington, I will meet with other relevant institution heads to find more avenues to help revive the Liberian economy and the country’s poor health system.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs also told elbcradio.com: “Much of the amount will come to Liberia.”

“The damages caused in Liberia by the outbreak are huge and, as such, the country needs more funding to fully recover, she added.” President Obama recently reiterated appeals to the US Congress to approve the US$6b emergency aid to help Ebola-affected Countries.

The United States Government has contributed to the fight against the Ebola outbreak in Liberia by sending about three thousand members of the US Army to the country.

The US military mission is working hand-in-hand along with the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) to construct Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs in the Country.-
