(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Dec. 31, 2014)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has commended the National Elections Commission (NEC) for the effective way the Special Senatorial Election was managed.

President Johnson-Sirleaf expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the election, void of constitutional bickering, though she wondered about the poor turnout.

She said: “The able handling of the process without appealing for international support proved to the rest of the world that NEC is capable of managing such process on its own.”

The Liberian Leader spoke Tuesday, December 30, 2014 when NEC Chairman, Jerome Korkoya, along with few commissioners, visited her at her Foreign Ministry office in Monrovia.

Cllr. Korkoya also said their visit was to officially report to the President about the outcome of the just -ended Special Senatorial Election.

He expressed the Commission’s satisfaction over the Government’s demonstrated commitment to respect the independence of NEC.

The NEC Chairman also praised the cooperation it received from various government ministries and agencies, including the Ministries of Finance and Development Planning, Health and Justice.
