Govt gives ultimatum to Poro, Sande Societies

(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Dec. 31, 2014)-The Ministry of Internal Affairs has given a three-day ultimatum to operators of Poro and Sande Societies in Liberia to suspend their activities.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs gave the three-day ultimatum Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in Monrovia.

Speaking to elbcradio.com in Paynesville, the Ministry’s Communication Consultant, Emmanuel Wenyou, said:
“The Ministry’s decision is intended to ensure that there is no Ebola virus outbreak in any Poro or Sande Society in the country.”

The Internal Affairs Ministry’s Communication Consultant said: “The Ministry will collaborate with the National Council of Chiefs and Elders to take appropriate actions against any violator.”

“Any Poro or Sande Society that does not adhere to the ultimatum will be dissolved,” he emphasized.
