Health Ministry, partners sign MOU

(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Dec. 31, 2014)-A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Health Ministry and 20 health-related institutions in Liberia.

The institutions include nine private and eleven faith-based health centers in Montserrado, Bong and Nimba Counties.

Some of the institutions include the ELWA Hospital, and the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Paynesville and Monrovia, respectively in Montserrado County.

Others are the Ganta United Methodist Hospitals in Nimba County, the United Inland Church Clinic, and the Family Medical Center in Monrovia and Paynesville, respectively in Montserrado County.

Under the MOU, the health-related institutions will provide discounts to patients; provide services to the public, remain open to the public during the Ebola crisis, among others.

On the other hand, the Ministry will provide the 20 entities medical drugs and supplies, human resource capacity and other operational costs.

Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Bernice Dahn, said: “Under 6-month period, the Health Ministry will ensure that the institutions provide the public child health, services, and malaria, HIV and family planning treatment.”

Dr. Lawrence Sherman of the International Polyclinic in Sinkor spoke on behalf of the private institutions.

Dr. Sherman said: “The MOU will enable the twenty medical centers provide proper and affordable health care to the people.
