(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Jan. 5, 2015)-The Liberian Government has announced the re-opening of schools throughout the country beginning January, 2015.

The Government’s decision was contained in a release issued by the Education Ministry Friday, January 2, 2015 in Monrovia.

The release said: “The decision to re-open schools is in line with an earlier pronouncement by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf for the resumption of academic activities across Liberia.”

The Government, however, instructed the Education Ministry to ensure that school authorities put into place the necessary Ebola preventive measures at their various institutions.

It also urged school authorities to put soap and faucet buckets, with chlorinated water, at their respective institutions during and after registration period.

“Ensure that both teachers and students wash their hands before entering their respective campuses,” the release urged school authorities.

“We are working along with partners to get and distribute thermometers to all schools throughout the country,” the release also quoted the Education Ministry as saying.

Sometime last year, the Liberian Government ordered the closure of schools as part of measures to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus in Liberia.
