(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Jan. 8, 2015)-Two African Leaders have reiterated calls for more International Community support toward the economic revitalization of Liberia and other Ebola hit countries.

Presidents Thomas Yaya Boni of Benin and Mohamadou Issoufou of Niger said:” There is a need to revamp the economies of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone for the economic survival of the Sub-Region.”

“We are deeply concerned about the sharp decrease in the economic growth of the three countries worst hit by the Ebola epidemic because it affects the growth of the region,” Presidents Boni and Issouufou said.

At the same time, President Boni of Benin called on the International Community for debt waiver for Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone as a consequence of the Ebola outbreak.

He said: “Debt waiver for the three West African countries worst hit by Ebola will serve as a great relief to revive their shattered economies.”

The two African leaders made the assertions Wednesday, January 7, 2015 during a brief stopover at the Roberts International Airport, where they held talks with their counterpart, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

Presidents Boni and Issoufou also assured Liberia of their support in combating the Ebola virus and urged the world to end stigmatization against Ebola affected countries.

Earlier, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf thanked the two leaders, saying their visit further deepens their solidarity for Liberia.

President Sirleaf stressed: “Ebola will be eliminated soon so that Liberia can return on the path of reconstruction and development.”

Presidents Boni and Issoufou’s visit brings to three the number of African Heads of State who have visited Liberia in less than a week.
