(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Jan. 12, 2015)- Action Aid-Liberia has donated food and non food items to the Bomi Rural Women and Midwifery association.

The donation was made over the weekend in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.

A volunteer of Action Aid-Liberia, Leona Gona, said: “After a survey, the charity saw the need to identify midwives, vulnerable to the Ebola virus, for assistance.

Receiving the items, on behalf of the Bomi Rural Women and Midwifery Association, the Association’s Secretary General, Jennet Paye, expressed gratitude to Action Aid-Liberia for the gesture.

Madam Paye said: “Following the outbreak of the virus in Bomi County, the Charity was one of the first that singled out the vulnerability of women, especially local Midwives, and identified with them.”

She expressed frustration over the exclusion of Midwives from training opportunities and other benefits.

Madam Paye is therefore appealing to health authorities to give considerable attention to Midwives throughout Liberia.

She said: “Midwifery is an important component that cannot be ignored in the Liberian health sector.”
