Government announces reduction in transport fares

(elbcradio.com/Liberia/ Jan. 19, 2015)- The Liberian government has reduced transport fares to reflect the decrease in the price of petroleum products in the country.

As part of the measure, Government says it has already reduced the prices of fuel and gasoline by 22 percent because of the sharp reduction in the prices of petroleum products on the world market.

The new regulations on transport fares were formulated by the Ministries of Commerce and Transport, respectively Thursday, January 15, 2015 in Monrovia.

Deputy Transport Minister for Administration, Bushuben Keita, said:”We have already communicated with the Police to begin the enforcement of the new regulation.”

‘The Transport Union and the Federation of Road Transport Union are aware of the reduction in the transportation fares.” Deputy Minister Keita said. 

The official and detailed copies of the new transport fares, reflecting various categories of destinations, can be obtained from the Transport Ministry in Monrovia.

In another development, the Transport Ministry has spoken of plans to introduce new license plates with news features and a numbering system to reflect best practices
Deputy Minister Keita noted: “The Transport Ministry will ensure that its regional office are operational to enable the driving public have access to the new license plates.

He said the Transport Ministry has regional offices in Gbarnga, Ganta and Zwedru with oversight to carry out registration of vehicles and issuance of drivers’ licenses.
