Rennie praises community effort in Ebola fight

(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Jan. 29, 2015)-The Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Ledgerhood Rennie, has praised community effort in the fight against the spread of the Ebola virus.

Mr. Rennie said: “National and international efforts to eradicate the disease from Liberia would not have yielded positive results had the communities not taken ownership of the initiative.”

The LBS Director General spoke Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the launch of the Mercy Corps Ebola Community Action Platform Program in Wood Camp Community, Paynesville.

The entity’s Ebola Community Action Platform Program was launched through the local NGO named, “People Empowerment Program.”

Mr. Rennie described community social mobilizers and communicators as the true champions in the fight to rid Liberia of the Ebola pandemic saying: “Their role was vital.”

He reminded the Community Leaders and Social Mobilizes to remain steadfast and vigilant in their effort to combat the virus spread, especially when the fight is now at a critical stage.

He also extolled the level of work done by the People Empowerment Program.

The local NGO’s work covers 80-thousand community dwellers in eight communities in Electoral District Number Three, Paynesville.
