Regional partners raise funds for Ebola-affected countries

(elbcradio.com/Liberia/Feb. 9, 2015)-A meeting, to raise resources to support post-Ebola recovery programs in countries worst-affected by the epidemic, is expected to convene in the Belgium capitol, Brussels.

The high-level meeting will take place in March, 2015, and will be sponsored by the European Union (EU).

ECOWAS Commission President, Kadre Ouegraogo, said: “The initiative is a result of ongoing coordination meetings with regional partners under the supervision of Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbe.

President Gnassingbe is also ECOWAS Coordinator for Response to Te Ebola crisis, a position he holds since November 2014.

The ECOWAS Commission President paid tribute to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf for her extraordinary leadership ability in containing the Ebola virus.

He also said: “ECOWAS was proud of Liberia and will continue supporting the country’s recovery programs.
Mr. Ouedraogo made the remarks over the week-end during the press stakeout at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia.

He is travelling along with President Gnassingbe on solidarity visit to the three worst-affected West African nations.
