(elbcradio.com-Feb.18, 2015)- President Ellen Johnson-Si leaf has challenged the Leadership of the Superintendent Council of Liberia to uphold the mandate of the Council in the realization of Government’s Decentralization Platform.

President Sirleaf said: “The Council’s work is to manage how to achieve the objectives of government’s decentralization platform”.

“The Council is also expected to work with traditional leaders and the National Legislature to ensure the implementation of a functioning decentralization platform,” she said.

President Sirleaf made the statement Wednesday, February, 16, 2015 when she inducted officials of the Superintendent Council of Liberia in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The Decentralization Platform is intended to ensure the effective running of government functionaries under a well-coordinated system in rural Liberia.

The Liberian Leader congratulated members of the Council for their election and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by their colleagues.

In remarks, Internal Affairs Minister, Morris Dukuly, said “For some time now, the decentralization process has been fragmented and uncoordinated in the past”.

He said:” There should be a two- track approach in achieving the success of decentralization across the country; the first track should be a pragmatic approach to assist citizens receives needed services in their communities.”

“The second track of the Decentralization Platform is the legal and regulatory frame work of the Council,” Minister Dukuly said.

The Chairman of the Superintendents Council of Liberia, Grand Bassa County Superintendent, Etweda Cooper, pledged the council’s commitment in ensuring the realization of the Decentralization process of Liberia.

Superintendent Cooper Said “I look forward to Central Government in providing the necessary support to the Council as we strive to achieve the common objectives of the Decentralization platform”.

She challenged her colleagues to work collectively in the interest of the Government and people of Liberia.

The creation of the Superintendent Council of Liberia is consistent with Government’s Decentralization Program with the view of running an efficient and well-coordinated local governance process across the country.
