( 24, 2015)-A High-Power US delegation will arrive in Liberia and Guinea this week for a 3-day visit to Ebola response sites in the two West African nations.

A release from the US Embassy near Monrovia says the delegation includes US Acting Assistant Secretary for Health, Karen DeSalvo, Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs, Jimmy Kolker, and Deputy Chief of Staff, Dawn O’Connel.

While in Liberia, the delegation will tour the Monrovia Medical Unit, a 25-bed field hospital, dedicated to providing care to health care workers who become infected with Ebola.

Members of the group will also visit the Liberia Institute of Biomedical Research, one of few laboratories used for testing Ebola specimens.

They will also meet with key Liberian Government representatives, the World Health Organization (WHO), and US agencies involved in the Ebola response.

The Monrovia Medical Unit (MMU) is staffed by the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, an elite uniformed service of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

US Deputy Surgeon General RADM, Boris Lushniak, is currently the Commanding Officer of the MMU.

In Guinea, Dr. DeSalvo and Mr. Kolker will visit the 115 Call Center, Boulbinet Health Center, and the Emergency Operations Center.

The US delegation will also meet with Guinean authorities, including Prime Minister, Mohamed Fofana, and Health Minister, Col. Remy Lamah.

They will also meet with Doctors without Borders representatives, the French Red Cross, and other agencies in the fight against Ebola.
