Liberia, EU sign 279m Development Pact

(elbcradio.com/Mar. 5, 2015)-The European Union (EU) Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Minica, has signed the 11th European Development Fund (EDF)’s National Indicative Program.

The EDF’sNational Indicative Program,valued at €279M, is intended for Cooperation with Liberia from 2014-2020.

The signing ceremony, with President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Amara Konneh, tookplace at the High-Level International Conference on Ebola.

President Johnson-Sirleaf and Minister Konneh constitute the National Authorizing Office of the EDF.

Commissioner Minica said: “The signing ceremony marks a new step forward in the EU’s commitment to Liberia’s stability and reconciliationpromotion, including equitable and inclusive development.”

Minica also said: “The EU is a strong and long-term partner to Liberia. Their support will target clear drivers of sustainable development and growth.”

Such clear drivers, including Good Governance, Energy, Education and Agriculture, were specifically endorsed by the Liberian Leader and her team.

The National Indicative Program Focal Sectors are aligned with the Liberian Government’s Agenda for Transformation.
