(elbcradio.com/Mar. 17, 2015)-  The St. Martins High School inGbarnga, Bong County, has won the 2015 Herold McGowan Up Country Basketball Tournament.

St. Martins staged a narrow victory over the Ganta United Methodist High School Sunday, March 15, 2015 and captured the Up Country Basketball Championship for the first time.

The competition was re-launched by the Ministry of Youth &Sports about three years ago.

During the competition, St. Martins whipped host Tubman Gray High School in the semi-final and subsequently dragged the Ganta United Methodist in a do or die encounter with 28-29 points.

The Tubman Gray High School, however, comforted itself with the Third Place prize by beating the Gboveh High School 18-14 points in the “Kiss the Sister Match.”

The just ended 2015 Tournament brought together seven high schools from Bong and Nimba Counties after defending Champion, Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in the last edition, failed to participate in the competition.
The Up Country Basketball Tournament is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Youth & Sports.

It is being held in honor of Herold McGowan, a Peace Corp Volunteer who committed himself to impacting young Liberians through basketball sport.

The 2015 edition was held under the theme,” Appreciating People’s effort for Impacting Lives through Basketball,”
