(elbcradio. com/Mar. 19, 2015)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf says Government welcomes the critical role of communities in the containment of the Ebola virus in the country.

President Sirleaf said:” Government appreciates the efforts of doctors, nurses and the Incident Management Team, among other.

“In like manner, Government also recognizes communities for taking charge, responsibility and ownership of the fight,” she said.

President Sirleaf made the statement Thursday at the start of a two-day Community Leadership Conference held at a local hotel in Monrovia.

The conference is being held under the theme:” Ebola’s Impact on Communities: Learning from Their Experiences to Plan for the Future.”
The Liberian Leader noted: “Government is encouraged

by the commitment of this initiative as a way forward.”
“It is also intended to support the spirit of volunteerism and selflessness to attract people for intervention

purposes at the community level,” the President noted.
She praised IREX and partners, including the media and civil society organizations for identifying about 60 communities to participate in community-based interactive forums on Ebola sensitization.

President Sirleaf, however, called on IREX to make available to Government a report on areas hard hit by Ebola but did not get adequate and prompt response from Government.
