Prez. Sirleaf sacks Deputy Minister Bah, signs Lotteries Act

(elbcradio.com/Mar. 25, 2015)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has dismissed Deputy Commerce Minister for Industry, Alpha Ahmed Bah, with immediate effect.

An Executive Mansion release quotes President Sirleaf as saying:” Mr. Bah was dismissed for performing unauthorized functions and actions incompatible to his functions as Deputy Minister for industry.”

President Sirleaf thanked Mr. Bah for his service to the country during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavors. Meanwhile, the Liberian Leader has signed into law an Act, repealing the 1993 Act of the Liberia National Lotteries Corporation.

The Act shall compel companies operating casinos and those engaged in raffle draws among others, acquire permits or licenses from the Corporation..

A release says the new Lotto Authority will also monitor, supervise and regulate any exercise of skill, chance or betting based on the outcome of an event.

The Act was introduced by Lofa County Representative, Clarence Massaquoi and printed into handbills March 6 this year.
