Supreme Court clears Senator Tornorla, suspends Cllrs. Cephus and Kumeh

(www.elbcradio.com/April 8, 2015)-The Supreme Court of Liberia has lifted the stay order placed on the certification of Margibi County Senator- elect, Jim Tornorla.

The Court’s decision is a reaffirmation of the National Elections Commission’s earlier pronouncement, declaring Dr.Tornonla winner of the Margibi County Sspecial Senatorial Election in 2014.

The Supreme Court has also ordered the National Elections Commission to certificate Dr. Tornonla as Margibi County Senator-elect “Dr. Tonorla to receive all of his entitlements and benefits retroactively upon taking office at the Liberian Senate,” the Court’s record said. 

It can be recalled that former Senatorial Candidates for Margibi County, Ansu Sonii and Saah Gborlee, filed a law suit, after the election of Dr. Tornonla, for alleged cheating in the process.  

Messrs. Sonii and Gborlee ran on the tickets of the Congress for Democratic Change and National Patriotic Party, respectively.
  
At the same time, the Supreme Court has suspended Cllrs. Sayma Syrenius Cephus and James Kumeh Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from practicing Law in the country.

Cllrs. Cephus and Kumeh were suspended by the court for their conduct during the legal proceedings involving Dr. Tornorla and the petitioners.

According to a Supreme Court’s document, Cllrs Cephus and James Kumeh were given three months and one month respectively.
