(elbcradio.com/Apr. 25, 2015)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has requested the House of Representatives for one month extension in the submission of the 2015/2016 Draft National Budget.

By law, the Draft National Budget should be submitted to the National Legislature not later than April 30.

President Johnson-Sirleaf said: “My request for additional time is to allow the Executive Branch mobilize external resources to support government’s recovery and development efforts.”

She further noted that the extra time will reduce the period available to the Legislature to approve the National Budget.
“This is why it is important for government to engage its development partners.”

In a recent communication to the House of Representatives, the Liberian Leader also said: “The Executive Branch of Government is unable to meet up with earlier budget projections, because of the Ebola crisis.”

The Plenary of the House of Representatives briefly debated the matter and forwarded same to its Ways, Means, Finance and Budget Committee for further study.
The committee is required to report to Plenary upon completion of the study.
