(elbcradio.com/May 6, 2015)-The Defense Ministry has assured that the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) is prepared to fill the security gap, following UNMIL’s departure from the country.

Assistant Defense Minister for Public Affairs, David Dahn, said: “The current numerical strength of the AFL is enough to defend Liberia.”
The Defense Spokesman gave the assurance in Monrovia Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

Minister Dahn also said: “The issue is not about manpower, but how well they are trained to respond to duty in an emergency situation.”

Minister Dahn noted that plans are underway to recruit more soldiers, but specific details about the exercise are being discussed.

Following several years of peace-keeping mission in Liberia, UNMIL is expected to complete its drawdown by June next year (2016).
UNMIL is the acronym for the United Nations Mission in Liberia.
