(elbcradio.com/May 8, 2015)-The UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Liberia says the country and its partners have gotten firmly ahead of the Ebola epidemic.

Madam Karin Landgren said: “Ahead of the much-anticipated declaration by the WHO that Liberia is Ebola free, the country must remain vigilant against the virus.

The Head of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) lauded Liberians for uniting in the fight against Ebola, but also said: “The time has come to address factors that contributed to the spread of the pandemic.”

She named the factors as weak social service delivery, lack of accountability and overly centralized government.

Government’s early steps towards security transition at the county level are part of a historic reform in de-concentrating service delivery, Madam Landgren further noted.

The UNMIL Boss spoke recently when she briefed the UN Security Council on the general situation in Liberia.

At the same time, Madam Landgren is expected to step down in July as the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Liberia.
