(elbcradio.com/May 8, 2015)-Government and partners have launched a nationwide polio and measles vaccination campaign in Liberia.

The official launching ceremony took place Friday, May 8, 2015 in the Liberian Capital, Monrovia. The campaign is aimed at combating the recent measles outbreak in 10 of the 15 political regions of the country.

In his launching statement, Vice President (VP), Joseph Boakai, described the initiative as a sign of a collective resolve in tackling health issues in the West African nation.

VP Boakai said: “The campaign specifically aims at protecting the Liberian Children, considered the future leaders of the country.”

He called on parents to ensure that their children are taken to the nearby clinic for the measles, polio and deworming vaccination.

Also speaking at the launch, House Committee Chairman, Johnson Chea, assured Liberians that the House will put in place a matching fund to support local health programs.

Representative Chea called on parents to see the campaign as an alternative in protecting their kids from such child-crippling diseases.
