ECOWAS games heat up at Knuckles Stadium

(elbcradio.com/May 8, 2015)-The  Willis  D. Knuckles  Sports  Stadium  in  Zubah Town  Paynesville  will  come  alive  this   weekend with   a  two-day  spectacular  football  tournament.

The tournament is in observance of the 40th anniversary of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS).
The  show piece  will feature  eight  Old timer  football  teams from Monrovia  and its  environs.

The head  of   the  Monrovia  office  of  ECOWAS said, the tournament is  intended  to  foster  peace  among  member  states  of  the  Organization.

Benedict  Roberts  told  ELBC online Sports Thursday,  May 8, 2015: “Citizens of  the  15-member  countries  of  ECOWAS   have been  invited  to  the  tournament.”

He said  the thriller  will kick  off  Saturday  with  Independent  Old  Timers chasing  Bench  FC  in  the  first  match.

Independent will rely on current Lone Star Coach and Liberia’s ‘Celebrated Star,’ James Debah, Beauford Weeks, among others to deliver.
Though not much is known about Bench FC, anything can happen in football.

The 2nd match brings Alpha Old Timers against Bame Old Timers.
Soccer legend, George Weah, is expected to play for Alpha, alongside Joe Nagbe, Chris Wreh, and many others.

Bame will be  led  by  the Acting  President  of  IE,  Alfred Sayon,  who will be doing everything to  stop  Alpha  from  scoring.

Lakpazee welcomes Sinkor in game three, while Paynesville faces Barnesville in game four.
According to Roberts, two giant-size trophies will be at stake for the winners and the second place winners.

He said several officials of the Liberian Government and other distinguished personalities from   the diplomatic circle are expected to grace the occasion.

The tournament ends Sunday, May 10, at the same venue.
