(elbcradio.com/May 11, 2015)-The White has congratulated Liberia after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the country free of Ebola Saturday, May 9, 2015.

In a dispatch from the White House, the US pledged its commitment to ending the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
The US also expressed its commitment to helping rebuild Liberia and other affected nations.

A White House Spokesman said the US is proud to partner with Liberia and expressed its intent to continue such partnership until the job is completely done.

The US, however, called for vigilance in combating the disease in neighboring Sierra Leone and Guinea, where the disease is still present.

Liberia has seen 3,000 confirmed cases of Ebola and more than 7,000 suspected, or probable cases since the outbreak started in March 2014.

Last year, President Obama confirmed that the global response to the disease was too slow.
The US sent 3,000 American troops to Liberia to assist with efforts to combat the Ebola virus in the country.
