(elbcradio.com/May 15, 2015)-A Lebanese trader has been arrested on allegation of forgery involving nearly US$30,000.

The Head of Euro-Liberia Logging Company, Jihad Akkari, was picked up after the issuance of a writ of arrest by the Paynesville Magisterial Court.
Mr. Akkari is charged with counterfeiting, forgery, criminal attempt to evade tax and criminal facilitation.

The case grew out of a complaint filed against the Lebanese trader by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).
Lawyers representing Mr. Akkari filed a motion to the court requesting time to adequately understand the case before hearings begin.

But LRA’s lawyers informed the court that the defendant’s failure to secure a criminal appearance bond would result to detaining their client.

Court documents show that defendant Akkari criminally presented a fake invoice in a duty-free application in November and February 2014.
LRA discovered the alleged forgery in the application through their system.
