(elbcradio.com/June 18, 2015)-The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has extended the deadline of Digital Migration to June 17, 2020.

Earlier June 17, 2015 was the deadline for Liberia, Sierra Leone and other countries in the region to undergo digital migration.

Making the pronouncement recently, Post and Telecommunications Minister, Frederick Norkeh, said: “The ITU took the decision to exempt Liberia and Sierra Leone, due to their absence from the conference in Geneva, Switzerland.”

Dr. Norkeh also said the extension places the countries in a better position to make necessary adjustments.

“The UHF band has been made ready to accommodate digital broadcasters that are prepared to do business in Liberia.”

Meanwhile, Minister Norkeh says the Liberian Government is still searching funding sources to ensure that the Liberia Broadcasting System undergoes digital migration.
