Govt launches Disaster Risk Management Committee

(elbcradio.com/June 29, 2015)-The Government of Liberia has launched the County Disaster Risk Management Committee (CDRMC) ACROSS Liberia.

The initiative is intended to strengthen the emergency preparedness and capacities of the Liberian society when disaster occurs in any part of the country.

Internal Affairs Minister, Morris Dukuly, made the disclosure over the weekend at the launching ceremony in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.

Minister Dukuly said: “The gesture will enable the Government and partners adequately respond to disaster.”
He also said: “With the collective effort of every citizen, disaster management in Liberia can be achievable.”

At the same time, the various CDRMCs are headed by county superintendents and co-chaired by the respective county health teams, according to the Internal Affairs Minister.

Minister Dukuly also named the health sector partners, including NGOs and Civil Society Organizations, as members of the County Disaster Risk Management Committee.
