(elbcradio.com/July 3, 2015)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has acknowledged the United States Department’s Human Right report on Liberia with reservation.

President Johnson-Sirleaf said the Liberian Government has the political will to address the issues raised in the report. She said such report, compiled solely from media reports, should be verified with the Government before releasing same.

The Liberian Leader therefore urged the U.S. Government to adopt a policy of consultation in dealing with issues of such nature.

President Johnson-Sirleaf made the reservation Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the occasion marking the 239th Independence Anniversary of the United States.

At the same time, the Liberian Chief Executive has praised the Government and people of the United States for their unwavering support to Liberia.

The President particularly recounted the U.S. Government’s overwhelming effort to help Liberia succeed in the Ebola crisis.

President Johnson-Sirleaf spoke Thursday, July 2, 2015 during the start of programs marking the observance of the United States’ National Day that falls on July 4.

She further highlighted the significant role played by U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, Deborah Malac.

Also speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Malac said Liberia’s progress over the past decade was based on President Johnson-Sirleaf’s demonstrated commitment.

Ambassador Malac, expected to leave the country later this year, urged the Liberian Government to remain focused on national development.
