(elbcradio.com/June 3, 2015)-Outgoing Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General to Liberia (SRSG), Karin Landgren, has been honored with distinction by the Liberian Government.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf admitted SRSG Landgren into the Order of the Star of Africa with the grade of Grand Commander on behalf of the Liberian Government and people.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian Leader bestowed the honor upon Madam Landgren for her services and contributions to the maintenance of peace and stability in Liberia.

The ceremony, hosted by the Liberian Government, took place Thursday, July 3, 2015 at an Investiture Ceremony & Farewell Luncheon at a local hotel in Monrovia.

The Grand Master of the Orders of Distinction then commended the outgoing UN SRSG for her distinguished service to keep Liberia peaceful and stable saying: “We owe her a depth of gratitude for her many years of service to the country.”

The Liberian Leader said although it is not yet established as to where Madam Landgren’s next assignment would be, wherever she goes, she will exhibit her rich success story from Liberia.

Responding, Madam Landgren applauded President Johnson-Sirleaf and other functionaries of the Liberian Government, and Liberians for their openness in cooperating with her during her period of service from 2012-2014.

“Maintaining the peace in Liberia is one of the best ways of keeping the country peaceful. Maintaining this peace must be nurtured and sustained by all,” the outgoing Special Representative of the UN Secretary General emphasized.

The Order of the Star of Africa with the grade of Grand Commander is one of Liberia’s highest honors.
