(elbcradio.com/July 9, 2015)-The Liberian Government has finalized plans to develop a computerized database for prisoners at the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), the disclosure is contained in the 2014 U.S. State Department’s Report on Liberia.

The Report acknowledged the Government’s continued efforts to improve on record-keeping on inmates at the Bureau, but such exercise at the entity remains a huge challenge, because the process is manual.

It further noted that a biometric intake process, including photographs at the Monrovia Central Prison, was in an initial phase, but had not been fully developed.

The international initiative, “Making All Voices Count,” in collaboration with the Prison Fellowship of Liberia, began working on the framework for the biometric intake process, the report added.

At the same time, the 2014 U.S. State Department Report on Liberia says zuthorities sometimes used alternatives to prison sentencing for non-violent offenders.

The U.S. State Department’s document, however, recorded the absence of a regulatory system being operated on behalf of prisoners and detainees at the Bureau of Correction and Rehabilitation.
