Action Aid-Liberia launches US$3m project in Gbarnga

(elbcradio.com/July 10, 2015)-The Charity, Action Aid-Liberia, has launched a US$3-million project in Gbarnga, Bong County to be implemented in four counties.

The project titled, “Enhancing the Protection of the Rights of Women, Girls and Other Discriminated Groups in Liberia.”

It is being supported by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) through the Swedish Embassy in Liberia.

Action Aid-Liberia Head of Program and Policy, Lakshmi Subramani, said the project seeks to ensure improved access to sexual and reproductive health rights of women and girls.

Mr. Subramani also said the project also seeks to ensure improved access to sexual and reproductive health rights of other discriminated groups.

The project further seeks to train civil society and advocacy groups to enhance their capacities to protect young people and other disadvantaged groups from domestic violence and sexual abuse, she also noted.

Mr. Subramani noted that the project started in 2014, but came to a halt because of the Ebola outbreak.

Action Aid-Liberia Program and Policy Head then named the four beneficiary counties as Bong, Grand Gedeh, Gbarpolu and Montserrado counties.
