(elbcradio.com/July 16, 2015)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has commenced the distribution of food items to various groups and institutions in the country.

The items which include rice and, cartons of fish and apple are being distributed to orphanages, disable communities and patients at various health facilities across Liberia.

The distribution of the items commenced Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Tobacco Louses (TB) Annex in Congo Town and at the Bishop Judith Craig Children Village along the Roberts Field High Way.

Speaking during the distributions, the Coordinator in President Johnson-Sirleaf’s office, Toe Wesseh, said: “The over 500 bags of rice,  among other items, are intended as Liberia’s Independence Day (July 26) gifts for the targeted beneficiaries.”

According to Mr. Wesseh, the gesture is the president’s way of identifying with those “under-privileged Liberians during the holiday celebrations.

He said the rice, being distributed, was locally produced and quotes the Liberian Leader as having encouraged Liberians to prioritize the production of their staple, rice.

Meanwhile, TB Annex Acting Administrator, Martha Geain, and the Bishop Judith Craig Children Village Head, Robert Sieh, lauded President Johnson-Sirleaf for the gesture, describing it as: “Smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries.”
