(elbcradio.com/July 16, 2015)-Maryland County Representative, Bhofal Chambers, is seeking information on the status of 14 Liberian girls rescued earlier this year from Lebanon.

Rep. Chambers wants authorities of the Ministries of Justice, Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Gender to appear before the House Plenary to provide up-date on the girls’ status.

The girls are said to have been placed in the Liberian Government’s “protective” custody.

The Maryland County Lawmaker made the call Tuesday, July 14, 2015 when he spoke to our reporters at the National Legislature in Monrovia.

In a communication to House Speaker, Alex Tyler, Rep. Chambers observed that it has been several weeks now since the girls were rescued from Lebanon, saying: “Since then, nothing has been heard about them.”

Rep. Chambers noted that it would be important to provide the public some information about the girls and what actions have been taken to cater for their welfare.

The Maryland County lawmaker has also expressed concerns about efforts to prosecute the girls’ allegedly traffickers in Liberia and their Lebanon collaborators.

The communication was read and forwarded to the Committees on Labor, Foreign Affairs, Judiciary and Gender to report to plenary Thursday, July 22.
