(elbcradio.com/July 23, 2015)-Liberia’s Constitution Review Committee (CRC) has recommended reduction in the President and Members of the National Legislature’s tenures.

The CRC has also recommended the protection of persons with disability, constitutional guarantee protection to ensure women’s participation in national affairs and family protection.

A release says the recommendations are among several others intended to amend the 1986 Constitution, submitted recently to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The recommendations derived from the National Constitution Conference held some time ago.

According to the CRC Chairperson, Gloria Scott, the body has also recommended the decentralization of the Government and the constitution of customary land rights.
She said: “Customary Land Rights as the constitutional rights of land owners to share the incomes from natural resources found in their land.”

Cllr. Scott made the statement Tuesday, July 21, 2015 when the CRC met with registered political parties in Monrovia on the outcomes of the recent National Constitution Review Conference.

She disclosed that the committee is expected to present its report to the National Legislature.
