(elbcradio.com/July 30, 2015)-Algeria has become the first to qualify for the 2015 African Under-23 Championship finals to take place in Senegal.

Algeria drew with Sierra Leone 0-0 Saturday, July 25, 2015 in the second leg of their third round qualifier in Blida.

Saturday’s result, coupled with their first 2-0 victory last week, means Algeria won the tie 2-0 and were able to confirm their place at the tournament.

The 2015 African Under-23 Championship in Senegal will also serve as qualifiers for the Rio Olympics in 2016. Sierra Leone chose to play their home game in the Algerian city of Blida, because of the FIFA-imposed ban on football activities in the country.

The ban is a result of the presence of Ebola in the West African Nation. The fixture was brought forward to 25 July at the request of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).

Algeria join hosts Senegal at the finals scheduled from 28 November to 12 December. The remaining six places will be decided this weekend to complete the line-up for the tournament’s finals.

The top three teams will represent Africa at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil and the fourth placed team will face an Asian side in a playoff.
