(elbcradio.com./July 31, 2015)-The Liberian Government says it is holding high level negotiation with authorities of the Millennium Challenge Corporation in the United States.

The Liberian delegation, headed by Finance and Development Planning Minister, Amara Konneh, is in the United States to showcase Liberia’s position at the on-going negotiation.

Liberia’s Information Minister, Lewis Brown, made the disclosure Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the regular press briefing of the ministry in Monrovia.

He said:” Liberia has already passed a score card of at least ten of the twenty democratically-principled governance countries that are competing for the Millennium Challenge Compact.”

“The Liberian delegation is negotiating the full details of the Compact Liberia has already been qualified for, “Minister Brown said.

The Information Minister said:” Whatever will be derived from the negotiation will be invested primarilyin the energy sector of the country.”

“Once Liberia’s energy sector is improved, it will remove major challenges confronting the growth of the economy,” he emphasized.

At the same time, Minister Brown also disclosed that another concentration of Government is the maintenance of regional road network across the country.

If all goes well, the outcome of the ongoing negotiation will determine whether or not Liberia will benefit from the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s financial aid.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation is one of the several financial bodies of the United Nations systems committed to providing assistance to developing countries.
