Govt says resurgent Ebola virus is contained

Benjamin S. Taingay

(elbcradio.com/July 31, 2015)-The Liberian Government says the resurgent Ebola virus has been contained since Friday, July 4, 2015 with no confirmed case at Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) in the country.

The Head of the Incident Management System (IMS), Tolbert Nyenswah, made the disclosure Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Information Ministry’s press briefing in Monrovia.

Mr. Nyensuah, who is also Liberia’s Deputy Health Minister, said: “There is no active transmission of the virus in the country.”

He then urged local and international business operators to carry out their normal activities without fear of the virus.

According to him, a total of 17 contact processes, currently undergoing follow-ups, will be completed August 1.

It can be recalled that six Ebola cases surfaced in Liberia two months after the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared the country free of the deadly virus.

The pandemic killed hundreds of people during its peak in Liberia.

The Ebola virus disease resurfaced in Margibi County, where it first killed a 17 year-old boy earlier infected by the disease.
