( 7, 2015)-The United States (U.S.) Embassy near Monrovia has refuted media reports that United States President, Barack Obama, gave Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, a list of “corrupt” African officials.

In a release, The US Embassy expressed dismay over such unethical journalism, noting that no journalist contacted it to confirm the information.

The release said: “The story has no factual basis and no such list was given President Buhari during his recent visit to the US.

The American Embassy said such careless reportage is unacceptable and does not contribute to the development of the journalism profession and of Liberia as a whole.

The U.S. supports transparency and good governance by providing technical assistance to multiple agencies and, funding as well as training civil society and media groups to act as watchdogs, it noted.

The United States Embassy then urged the media to be responsible and to be observance of the first tenet of journalism.

The first tenet of journalism requires journalists to verify information before coming reporting.
