(elbcradio.com/Aug. 10, 2015)-Prominent Liberian Businessman, Benoni Urey, has donated 300,000 Liberian Dollars (L$) to the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, Margibi County.

The amount was allegedly pledged to the BWI Alumna Association, on behalf of Mr. Urey, by the Friends of Urey.

The Chairman of the Friends of Urey, Emmanuel Lomax, made the payment Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in fulfillment of the pledge made in March.

The controversial pledge payment followed word-of-words in the media between the Friends of Urey and the BWI Alumna Association.

It can be recalled that in recent weeks some members of the BWI Alumna Association embarked on a media campaign claiming that Mr. Urey had pledged L$300, 000.00 to the association at one of its home-coming programs, but he was reneging on his promise.

Responding to the association’s claim, representatives of Mr. Urey denied that Mr. Urey ever made such a pledge to it.

The Liberian businessman has, however, decided to resolve the issue by paying the amount to the BWI Administration, instead of the BWI Alumna Association.

Mr. Urey is also a prominent Liberian politician, suspected of eying the country’s presidency and may run for the position in the 2017 elections.
