(elbcradio.com/Aug. 17, 2015).The Liberian Government has finally approved the renovation of the Roberts International Airport (RIA).

Presidential Press Secretary, Jerelinmick Piah said: “Government reached the decision Thursday, August 13, 2015 at its regular Cabinet Meeting.”

“The RIA Plan approved by the Cabinet will not only include its renovation but also the development of an airport city,” he said.

Mr. Piah also disclosed that the RIA Terminal will be expanded as part of the airport master plan to accommodate at least five hundred passengers at a time.
He said government is now accepting the expressions of interest from various companies.

According to the Presidential Press Secretary, companies expressing interests are to meet several requirements, including the ability to pre-finance the multimillion dollar project.

The Roberts International Airport (RIA) has not been renovated since its construction in the 1940’s by the United States Government.

The RIA Renovation Project, if completed, will boost Liberia’s airport sector.

Currently, the airport is the most deplorable in the region and the continent as a whole.
