Carter Center-Liberia, LACC end Accountability Forum

(elbcradio.com/Aug. 19, 2015).Carter Center-Liberia and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) have ended a two-day Accountability and Transparency Forum in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The forum was held in partnership with the Bong County Freedom of Information Network.

Participants and stakeholders of the two-day event were drawn from various government functionaries in seven of the fifteen counties of Liberia.

The counties include Bong, Lofa, Grand Gedeh, Nimba, River Gee, Montserrado and Grand Bassa.

Speaking at the close of the forum, Carter Center Head for Access to Information, Alphonso Zeon, said: “The initiative was intended to build a more open system.”

“It also seeks to promote transparency and accountability through the dissemination of credible information,” he said.

Mr. Zeon disclosed that the objective of the project is to help citizens understand the Freedom of Information Law of Liberia.
