(elbcradio.com/Aug. 19, 2015)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has commissioned the Liberty Gold Mine in Grand Cape Mount County.

President Johnson-Sirleaf performed the commissioning ceremony Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in the mining town of Kinjor, Gola Conneh District.

Performing the ceremony, the President said: “The latest development sends a clear message that Liberia is a save and potential zone for investments, despite challenges.”

She also said “The investment comes at a crucial time when the country’s economy is recovering from the shocks of Ebola and the negative impact of global market prices on iron ore and rubber.”

The Liberian Leader then praised the cooperation between the local community, the company and the relevant government agencies that contributed to the success of the gold mine investment.

Speaking earlier, the President of Aureus Mining Company, David Reading, attributed the successful commencement of the operations to support from the Government and the company’s ability to keep its commitment.

Mr. Reading reaffirmed the Aureus Mining Company’s commitment to its social responsibility to the community adding: “The Company had already begun empowering locals through various initiatives.”

The investment now gives birth to Liberia’s first large-scale gold mine operation  that now puts the country on the map of gold producing countries around the world.

The Liberty Gold Mine, operated by the Bea Mountain Corporation, is a subsidiary of Aureus Mining Company.

Liberty Gold Mine is operating under an 8-year agreement with the Liberian Government.
