Senate Pro-Temp wants firm pledge to gender equality

(elbcradio.com/Aug. 24, 2015)-The Liberian Senate’s President Pro-tempore, Armah Jallah, has called for firm commitment to gender equality.

President Pro-Temp Jallah said Liberian women have longed for equal rights with their male counterparts.

He also called for the Government’s firm commitment to foster the objectives of gender equality in the country.

The Senate’s President Pro-Temp also said: “Gender equality is necessary for sustainable development and healthy political environment.”

“Women make up close to 50% of Liberia’s population and are indeed partners in progress,” he noted.

The Gbarpolu County Senator spoke Friday, August 21, 2015 at the launch of the “He-For-She” Campaign at the Legislature in Monrovia.

Senator Jallah further noted that the campaign’s goal was to consent to end violence against women and to foster economic empowerment for women in Liberia.
