(elbcradio.com/Sept. 3, 2015)-Information Minister, Lewis Brown, wants Liberians cherish and uphold their culture values as a mark of true identity.

Minister Brown said it is important for Liberians to respect their cultural values and symbols to promote their true identity.

He is calling for ‘a national conservation’ on the values and significance of Liberian culture, symbols and identity.

The Information Ministry Boss also said: “It appears that most Liberians do not care, or know about the values of the country’s national Awards, Honors and Symbols.”

“Citizens usually pay less attention when national awards, or honors are being conferred on distinguished people for making significant contributions to the Liberian society,” Minister Brown noted.

According to a MICAT release, Minister Brown made the remarks Wednesday, September 2, 2015 when a delegation from the Governance Commission (GC) paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Monrovia.

The release quotes the Information Minister as saying: “The more the citizens are educated on the values of their national awards, honors and symbols, the more they will aspire for national recognition.”

Also speaking, Governance Commission Vice Chairperson, Elizabeth Mulbah, said the commission is willing to work along with the Ministry of Information to educate Liberians on national merits.

Madam Mulbah, responsible for Civic Engagement, National Identity and Visioning at the Commission, stressed the importance of cultural symbols.
